My new sketchbook cover, with a Marie Antoinette theme.

The cover has many images of Marie from different sources. The gold lettering in the middle has the french phrase that translates to "Let them eat cake", and also, "There are a great many people at Versailles today," the only thing Marie ever said to DuBarry in public.

The middle motif is Marie-Antoinette's signature image at the Petit-Trianon, with an M and an A intertwined. Marie and I have the same initials! Marie Antoinette=Mary Alice.

I've been a fan of Marie Antoinette for a long time and done a lot of research on her. I have many books about her, including one just about her official perfumer. She's a very misunderstood character, not at all as airheaded as Kirsten Dunst made her out to be in the latest movie.

That movie wasn't very good...I mean it was BEAUTIFUL, but that's about it. Also, can I just say, DuBarry was NOT a scary-looking black-haired villain? She was blonder than Marie, who was actually slightly redheaded. And many people said she was a very kind person, not a horrible sneering cat like the movie made her out to be. So yeah, the movie was not so great. But that doesn't mean I won't cosplay it soon! XD

This looks amazing!

I wish I had clippings like this but I only just got into Marie Antoinette late last year :/ Not likely to find any magazines lying around with movie clip or anything along that line now. I would print it off if it wasn't my printer being lame by leaving a green tinge to the colours.

Definitely agree with you about the movie. It was stunningly gorgeous. And that image of Marie with all the cakes is my favorite. I rescued that page from the magazine it came in and have been wondering what to do with it ever since. Now I know!

I love Marie Antoinette (btw all my comments you're gonna get today are a result of boredom, my fiancee not following up on dishnetwork, and the fact that uh it's been awhile so I"m sorting through 500 deviations... teeheehee... I delete most but look at most of yours w00t)..

I <3 Marie Antoinette. Have you seen the 300 dollar Marie Antoinette Barbie doll? It's AMAZING. She's my 2nd favorite queen. My #1 was Queen Elizabeth I. :)

Marie got a bad rap for being an indulgent princess.
But who doesn't want to be an indulgent princess?

Oh my gosh gorgeous!

I love it! Makes want to make one as well except I'm much more into Madame de Pompadour then Maria. We both share a love for porcelain.

No offense to Marie but I always thought that Madame Pompadour had much better taste in fashion. Marie kind of wore the same things as her but just more gaudy.

I think its so cool how you share the same initials as Marie though.

Oh yay! Someone who agrees with me! The movie was very good but I didn't like that it made her look like this horrible person. Granted, I don't know THAT much off the top of my head about her but she's always fascinated me ^_^

And the cover of this is amazing! :D I love the upper left picture and it's funny you have the same initials! :XD:

I like how you decorate your notebooks. I should try that next time I get one for my friend.

And you could totally rock the socks off the M. Antoinette look... If they wore socks back then.

Great . . . now I'm hungry . . . and she really said 'Let them eat SHIT' but the recorded it 'let them eat CAKE' instead. When she said her famous technically fake phrase, it was during a famine and there was no bread for the people but there was plenty of . . . well you get the idea.

Ah! For a second I thought the screenshot from the movie at the bottom left WAS you cosplaying, and I was incredibly jealous of the cakes.

So did MA ever actually say "let them eat cake"? I've heard that it wasn't her but someone else, and it became an expression used for the Marie.

Nice cover- and I really enjoyed reading your caption.

I feel bad for Du Barry, especially the way she's been villainized in movies. I just finished reading "Sex with Kings," which has a pretty extensive write-up of Mme du Barry's rise and horrible fall. Poor kid...
