OK, this one bears explaining.
My editors pushed me for a series of new covers for Bizenghast, volume 1, and the overall decision by Levy (head of Tokyopop) was that they were all not simple enough. He liked the Violin Girl piece I did a year ago, and wanted to see a mock-up of that same painting, but with a different background and changed to be Dinah, the main character. So that's what's going on here. Will it be the ACTUAL cover for the book come this Christmas? Who knows. I like it better than the other jillion sketches I've done over the past six months. But we'll just have to see what Stu says. In case you're wondering how I separated the two to make a new painting, I always do my backgrounds as a separate painting. So this background is a separate piece altogether. I also painted Dinah's head and hair separately and combined it with the body on the PC. |

ANYway, I think the thing that would make this a really, really effective cover is having her gaze be more peircing towards the viewer, or otherwise make the blue stand out a bit more from the warm browns so as to catch attention. However, I can't really think of a way to do that without changing the style of your eyes, so...:sweat:

At first i was like "huh?" but now that I see that she is playing an instrament and that she is the instrament has set it to a new level of preception of this work. If you look at it just right the picture shows you a crule irony to it. She is the creator of her own music and the slave to the instrament at the same time. This one does rock!
