EDIT: A lot of ppl seem to want this colored. I'm not going to because it's interior book art so it's supposed to be black and white, but if YOU want to color it then go nuts, and send me a link when you're done!

OK, is anyone else sick of opening a comic and being confronted with a parade of stick figures? Because that's what I see when I read most comics. Female figures that are blatantly labelled as beautiful and they're beyond being unrealistically thin...they're just sick.
I'm so sick of mangas that have their most beautiful characters being stick figures. That's why, when I was designing Nareesha (who is characterized in the book as being "the beautiful woman in the world") for book two of Bizenghast, I said HEY, let's make her super-full figured!
I'm glad some of my cosplay friends will dress as Nareesha. I made her to be a beautiful character that larger cosplay gals could cosplay with confidence. You CANNOT tell a cosplayer she's too fat to be Nareesha, because Nareesha is both really BIG and really HOT. BOO freakin YAH.
I've always preferred my women curvey with big hips. This picture here, THAT is what my perfect woman would look like. I will be sooooo happy when this stupid starve yourself to death fad is over. >_< And I agree, most female characters in manga are really, really thin. Thank you soooooooooooo much for drawing a beautiful big gal! I think I shall cosplay as her for the next convention because I have the body for it. So there you fur-bikini wearing stick girls!
I'm not considered overweight either, but I am curvy. Sometimes I get looks because women are held to an idealistic vision of beauty that no normal person could possibly achieve. I applaud you for seeing that women SHOULD have meat on them. Anorexics are yucky.
HUZAH FOR CURVES! XD

EXACTLY!! That always bothered me that anime girls are like that. From the things I've heard about Japan, no offense to the countrty, but it sounds a little F'd up. 0__0 She is very pretty, and go people who dont look like the medias perspective of pretty!! I'm extremly thin, almost underweight, but my stomach is like a friggin black hole! I eat all the time! I just have a fast matabolism!!! ^__^

[claps enthusiastically] right on! I'm always tired of people rubbing it in my face that I can't be beautiful because I wear size-7 jeans or etc. Not to mention those skinny manga girls with enormous big breasts and cute faces and the thinnest waists = feehhh. It's just an anime version of Barbie. Anway your character Nareesha is very pretty - teh long flowing hair, gorgeously embroidered clothes = wow . I look forward to seeing more of her in the future!
I'm really small, but it makes me so mad when people get on other people because they're big. ( I'm really shy, but I've even gone off on complete strangers at school for making fun "fat" people) What does it matter!? They can still be a beautiful person, just like you said! Whether it's on the outside or the inside!!
You don't have to be skinny to be beautiful and just because you ARE skinny
doesn't make you a beautiful person either.
When it comes down to it, wouldn't you rather have a big person with a wonderful heart than a small person with a horrible heart? I would!!
Beautiful picture and message! Although I've never been over 110 in my life (and I'm the laziest bum around- i attribute it to my fast metabolism), I am not so shallow to think that big cannot equal pretty. You have proven the world wrong! way to go.

I love you for doing this. It's not only anime and manga that continually incorporate thin girls into their definition of 'beauty' and force it on everyone, I think most people are of the same opinion. I don't know why--perhaps they should go back to the ideals of the Middle Ages, when large women were considered healthy and beautiful, and to be fat was to be fashionable.
I hate how, often, people make the excuse that they don't like fat people because it's unhealthy. One of my friends eats as much as anyone else, and she is overweight. I can't believe that people don't realise that everyone's different and some people's bodies are just created larger than others--although knowing how society likes to conform everyone to be as one, I suppose it's not that surprising.
Thankyou for drawing a real, honest-to-goodness woman.
The drawing itself is beautiful, I love Indian designs and clothing like that. The patterns and hair have so much wonderful detail. I think this would look wonderful coloured, also. =]
I seriously love you for doing this.. She's absolutely gorgeous.. Your detail and linework's always a blowout too.. It's a pleasure seeing your deviations on my watch list.
