Ringmaster Alice pg 4 by sadwonderland Ringmaster Alice pg 4 by sadwonderland
EDIT: As you can tell, I am just NOT on board with the whole handsome bishounen Mad Hatter trend that makes its way around DA every so often. I'm a traditionalist.

---------

This is a CMYK coloring assignment that I did for my Computer Coloring For Comics class at SCAD. I had to draw four pages of an original comic and the color them in CMYK channels.

This is AMAZINGLY BAD ART AND COLORING and such but the story concept is sound and I kinda wanted to finish it. I also got an A on the project. :)

In this story, Alice has returned to Wonderland and become Ringmaster Alice, putting all the creatures into a sideshow circuit and charging people from our world to see them. The leader of the rebellion against her is the Mad Hatter. S'all I can say for now, but check out the other pages besides this one.

I KINDA want to do this story idea as my next book series (not in color, obviously, too expensive), but so many many Alice comics already done to death! Mine's not gothic or anything but still, I'm afraid of just flogging a dead horse at this point.

On the other hand, my NAME is Alice and I love Alice in Wonderland and I feel like I deserve to do it anyway, yah buddy!

I dunno...thoughts, comments?

Which means we are dealing with the Impostor here (the jet-black hair and the scowl are dead giveaways).

I have to say, putting the Wonderland denizens in a circus for all to see is by far the Impostor's most creative plan. Usually her plans are no more elaborate than "butcher the Wonderland denizens" or "ruin the One True Alice's reputation".

But never fear, Wonderland denizens! Together with the One True Alice, we shall rescue you and defeat the Impostor bonce again!

The One True Alice is NOT "mean", has never been "mean", and weill not grow up to be mean. Ergo, this has to be the Impostor.

OK, you do know what artistic license is, right? A rewrite of the classic Alice story means I can write the character how I like, since it's public domain. For the purposes of this story, this IS Alice. I have no idea what One True Alice means, but for the purpose of this particular re-imagining story, Alice is whatever I say she is within this story. That's kind of how stories work. So get a grip on yourself.

"Public domain" does NOT mean "I get to butcher Lewis Carroll's original vision".

And if you want to get REALLY pedantic, Lewis Carroll's original drawings of his Alice depicted her with long, dark brown/black hair, as shown in the reproduction of his manuscript, "Alice's Adventures Underground". Tenniel later changed it to blonde. And since it's a well-known fact that Carroll and Tenniel did NOT get along and Carroll did NOT like Tenniel's drawings, it's safe to say that Carroll's "original vision" of Alice IS with very dark hair, not blonde hair.

So the only thing strange about my version is that Alice is mean. And who can say she wouldn't grow up to be mean? There's nothing in the books that says she later grew up to be a very nice woman with not a mean streak in her. Many cruel people in history are mentioned as happy children in their biographies. Don't put words in Carroll's mouth be saying "she will grow up to always be nice," because you can't know that for sure. You only wish it and want it to be true because you like Alice. But that doesn't make it true just because.

Do me a favor and never draw a comic about the Ghostbusters.

I bet midichlorians and Aang being white were your ideas, too....

Also didn't George Lucas invent midichlorians? Which means that they're part of his "original vision"? Which you seem to care so very much about? Or were they an invention of Imposter George to discredit the One True George?

I noticed you're off the Alice topic, which is a shame, because I was going to tell you all about the book Lost Girls by Alan Moore, where the One True Alice grows up to be an elderly weirdo who screws Wendy from Peter Pan and Dorothy from OZ in a hot lesbian three-way. PUBLIC DOMAIN.

PS I don't need to write any Ghostbusters comics to upset you, as simply googling "Ghostbuster slash" will show you that the world has done that job for me already.

Amazingly enough, that's EXACTLY what it means. That is, in fact, part and parcel of public domain...the ability to interpret, re-interpret or change the original however one sees fit, even if other people don't like it.

And anyone who cries about a spin-off of a character they like has:

a) too much free time or a baffling neuroses, and

b)only to put their fingers in their ears and say, "It's not canon, so it doesn't matter." Feel free to do so now.
