This is the second piece in my Creeping Beauty collection...a series of jewelry pieces centered around bugs and other living creatures! This was a really difficult choker to make. I wanted to incorporate a little blue robin's egg I found outside my window (it had hatched, there was no birdy inside!). But robin's eggs are notoriously delicate. Just picking them up with a pair of tweezers can crush them. This one was the only egg left after the robin's nest outside my bedroom window hatched all its eggs...the others blew away in the wind or were destroyed. So I wanted to be very careful not to waste this one. I decided to break it into little pieces and make a sort of layered mosaic design behind a watch crystal, and set it on an antique watch face. The blue of the ribbons really sets of the blue of the shell, and I think it came out very nice! |
