Oh yeah, it's DONE. It took three years or more, but I finally finished it, and just in time to include it in the first volume of Bizenghast.
Now that it IS done, I'll give you the whole run-down because I'm super proud of this drawing. It's probably the most technically difficult background I've ever drawn, and it came out great.
This is based on the Paris Opera, with the main character from Bizenghast standing in it (not to scale, obviously, as she'd be too small for detail). This drawing was started years ago and I kept misplacing it, before finally finishing it this weekend. It took about 7 hours to draw, over 25 hours to ink and three different versions of the main character cut and pasted in before I got one I liked. This was NOT a trace, as some people have asked. I would go blind trying to trace something that difficult. This was done from a very small online reference photo. I actually lost the file very early on so some of this is invented off the top of my head.
Dinah is wearing the Pink Sugary costume I made in February, only her dress has panels of frills on the front underskirt that I have yet to add to my own real-life version (that's getting done later this month).
WOW! That was my first impression upon stumbling on this. I just HAD to critique it, mostly to tell you how wonderful it is. It took you three years? Wow, that's quite a while, but the end product is fabulous and absolutely worth the time and effort put into this piece.
Vision: I gave you 5 out of 5 because it's so apparent how hard you've worked on it and how clear of an idea you had is expressed. It's so wonderfully consistent drawing wise and very fluid and the title and mood are perfect. You've portrayed your vision well!
Originality: I gave you a 4.5 out of 5 because this is very original. I like how it's black and white, I'd find it much less original colored in. To me it feels somewhat Shakespearean. You hardly ever see things like this is drawings, usually it's photos.
Technique: Your technique is phenomenal! It's apparent how much hard work you've put into this. I love the depth in this drawing, it doesn't look 2 dimensional at all. I can't get over how amazing the detailing is. It's so intricate and I find it fascinating. Definite 5 out of 5.
Impact: 5 out of 5 here. It really says "wow" when you look at this piece. I love the mood it portrays to the viewers. This is a very beautiful drawing that really deserves a lot of praise.
I really hope you keep drawing, you have a lot of talent. I will definitely favorite this and watch and when I get to it, feature! Keep up the wonderful work, you're very talented.
There's so much intricate details in this piece that I can't stop looking at it in wonder, trying to find everything there is to see. Very, very good job.
Maaaaan, some people have all the talent! You're the wittiest and prettiest princess, you make the best costumes and jewelry, your comics never fail to make me laugh, AND you're a phenomenal artist!!! You rock!!!
Ssshhhfffholy cow woman you're like a cross hatching ninja. Amazing level of detail here - a very interesting balance of values afforded by your placement of the room's light sources. Only thing I noticed is that Dinah herself seems to be missing a shadow, although such details can be easily lost when presented with the overwhelming nuances of her frilly dress. Girls and their lace, honestly.
